I know you're all gonna read this and just be like "Jesus, fuck that Madin guy, they're still clearly a card carrying Brotherhood member" and 1) I'm not and 2) this is important.

I don't comment on social media much or anything but there's this one lady that's being going viral on tiktok lately. Her name is Ayame and she is fuuuuuucked. So the conservatives love her.

[embedded video of a woman speaking, saying "I realize that I ask much of my fellow mutants, but we must establish limits on those perceived to be limitless. Society can only function with boundaries and rules, and we must continue to work to find a way to be a part of it; to not press so hard against those markers as to disturb the peace."]

You don't have to agree with me but it's important that you know about this. People like her? They want us back in the box. Limited. Tame. They want us to be fully managed by humans so that we're never a threat.

We don't get mutant liberation by listening to what they have to say.

Now don't get me wrong about agreeing with this woman's whole "so as not to disturb the peace" talk, but ain't there something to be said for limits? I don't got much of a clue what those limits would be, and I doubt I'd agree with her, but I can see there being limits to what folks can do. And maybe that starts with training so that people are able to impose their own limits on their powers. I mean, weren't this place originally a school and that was part of it? Not to speak ill of our quite possibly ill herself visitor, but her powers were able to make it so you couldn't hardly trust the world around you to be as it was two minutes ago. What gives her the right to change the world at her will- and whats the harm of teaching someone with powers like that how to control 'em and that there is a time and place for control?

You are speaking of exercising control in the greater context of human society. Meanwhile, Liam and I were taken in broad daylight and hunted for sport because we visited Central Park as visible mutants. I'll care about the benefits of incremental change when Liam's done with the physical therapy he has to do just for existing.

If human society insists on limits, they can go first.

I never said that there shouldn't be limits on everyone, but I can't control the whole world. I can suggest limits for my own communities- my family, my home, the places where I'm livin', my church, etc. And I here I am hopin' that I'm part of that mutant community people talk about.

Everyone should have limits and that includes non-mutants too.

Also, what do you mean hunted for sport?

"Hunted for sport" means exactly what it sounds like. If you'd been with us they would have taken you, also.

You talk as if this is a dialogue between two communities, but this is not what I have experienced. A true dialogue would require them to acknowledge us as something other than animals.

People hate people and dehumanize them but that don't mean it ain't our job to be better than those who do so. Also, what about learnin' limits to protect yourself and your loved ones.

And I'm very sorry to hear about your being hunted for sport. I'm glad that you and Liam are both home and alive.

I am better than them. This is not my job, it is simply fact.

My limits are why I could not protect myself. I won't impose more for people who have proven they have none.

I never said that the limits should be decided by people without powers, just that I don't think that the concept of limits is inherently bad. And I don't see how what I wear to go to church got anything to do with anything. I cover my wings in church the same as I would cover my ass and legs.

I've gone to church events that are not held within the church itself with my wings out, and I haven't been trying to hide that I'm a mutant.

At what point does being better than them just becomes complicit in their actions though?

I don't have Big Mutant Powers and I'm not visibly a mutant, I change my hair color and my face to look cute, so maybe I don't have much of a bone in this fight (even though eventually these things WOULD trickle down to people with "harmless" powers) but if being "better" than the hateful people means just standing by and letting them hurt others, then... is it worth it to be better? I'd rather take care of the people who need it.

And I agree! That learning control over destructive powers is a good thing. From what I've gathered that's kind of what this place does? Or did? That's great. People should learn so they don't have to worry about hurting themselves or others. But if we let the government control that, then what's the cost?

If help learning control is all privatized though, would everyone who needs help be able to get it? Me and my family have been very blessed that we got help from Muir Island and here, but what about folks who aren't found but need help? I ain't saying that having the government control things is the way to go, but I do feel that maybe there ought to be at least easier access to places like this and Muir.

I don't really have a solution for it, honestly.I agree, access to these places should be easier. But I don't know if I trust the government to a) make sure everyone gets the help they need and b) not take advantage of it.

I don't got a solution for it either. If there was an easy solution it's have probably already been come up with. And you ain't wrong about the government taking advantage of people.
